Interaction with Robot Assistants: Commanding ALBERT
نویسنده
چکیده
Giving advice to a mobile robot assistant still requires classical user interfaces. A more intuitive way of commanding is achieved by verbal or gesture commands. In this article, we present new approaches and enhancements for established methods that are in use in our laboratory. Our aim is to interact with a robot using natural and direct communication techniques, and through this means coping with complex robot programs. Using skin color segmentation algorithms for tracking a user’s hand, Fourier Descriptors of it’s outline are computed in order to map hand shapes to gesture classes. Recognized gesture types and manipulable objects as well as verbal commands are fed into an event manager that selects and starts an appropriate reaction. This architecture has proven it’s applicability to human-machine interaction in first experiments and will be expanded in the near future.

How a Robot Should Give Advice | HRI 2013 | 8th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction - Tokyo, Japan
With advances in robotics, robots can give advice and help using natural language. The field of HRI, however, has not yet developed a communication strategy for giving advice effectively. Drawing on literature in politeness and informal speech, we propose options for a robot’s help-giving speech— using hedges or discourse markers, both of which can mitigate the commanding tone implied in direct...

This paper proposes a novel interaction model for human-robot cooperative task. The point of the interaction model is an introduction of CEA (Commands Embedded in Actions) by which a human work-load is reduced because it need less inputs and outputs of a user of a robot than that of using direct commanding methods in a conventional interaction model. We build a procedure of the design for the p...
متن کاملMORPHA: Communication and Interaction with Intelligent, Anthropomorphic Robot Assistants
Robot systems, which are employed outside traditional manufacturing applications, socalled service robots or robot assistants, have by far not reached the economic potential of industrial robots yet. There are several factors, which explain this circumstance. Operating robots in unmodified natural environments inhabited by human beings imposes requirements on the robots, which are incomparably ...
متن کاملToward a practical mobile robotic aid system for people with severe physical disabilities.
A simple, relatively inexpensive robotic system that can aid severely disabled persons by providing pick-and-place manipulative abilities to augment the functions of human or trained animal assistants is under development at Rice University and the Baylor College of Medicine. A stand-alone software application program runs on a Macintosh personal computer and provides the user with a selection ...

Blinking and eye movement are one of the most important abilities that most people have, even people with spinal cord problem. By using this ability these people could handle some of their activities such as moving their wheelchair without the help of others. One of the most important fields in Human-Robot Interaction is the development of artificial limbs working with brain signals. The purpos...
